Global Urban Intelligence
Trenolo is an independent data portal dedicated to providing accurate, accessible, and comparable socio-economic intelligence for digital nomads, expats, researchers, and global citizens.
1. Our Mission
In an era of borderless remote work, relocation, and shifting global economies, finding reliable, up-to-date data on what life actually costs in a given city is notoriously difficult. Information is often fragmented, out of date, or obscured behind expensive consulting paywalls.
Our goal: To index and democratize verified urban data across thousands of global cities, regions, and neighborhoods—giving everyone the tools to make informed decisions about living, moving, and traveling abroad.
2. Data Methodology & Sources
To maintain data integrity and objectivity, Trenolo aggregates information from recognized open datasets, multinational organizations, and community registers. Our pipeline combines:
Consumer Prices & Indices
Gathered through Numbeo and open economic registers. Standardized into normalized baskets of consumer goods, rents, utilities, dining, and transportation with New York City as the benchmark index (100).
Geospatial & Boundaries
Powered by OpenStreetMap (OSM) and standardized address repositories. Ensures precise geographic coordinates, administrative state/district hierarchy, and postal boundaries.
Safety & Healthcare
Public safety indices, healthcare index assessments, and environmental pollution data processed from municipal records, WHO publications, and World Bank macro indicators.
Visual Architecture
Curated imagery verified through Wikimedia Commons and modern Cloudflare R2 edge caching, ensuring authentic representations of urban landmarks with proper Creative Commons attribution.
3. Statistical Validation & Quality Control
Raw price data can be susceptible to seasonal anomalies or exchange rate volatility. We apply automated statistical filters:
- Outlier Removal: Data points that fall outside 2.5 standard deviations from the regional median are flagged for manual review or excluded.
- Community Confidence Interval: User feedback and votes are weighted using the Wilson Score interval to prevent low-sample distortion in city rankings.
- Periodic Refresh: Pricing indices and currency exchange rates are refreshed continuously via edge workers to reflect real-world purchasing power.
4. Editorial Standards & Independence
Trenolo maintains editorial independence. Our cost of living calculations, safety ratings, and rankings cannot be altered by commercial sponsorship or tourism boards. All analytical ratings are produced algorithmically without manual commercial intervention.
